Can someone explain in summary the difference between LDAP and
OpenDirectory, if there is one other than features?

Open Directory is a product marketing term encompassing Apple's Directory Services architecture. Depending on who you talk to this includes:

DirectoryService
lookupd
DirectoryService plugins
the open Directory API
Apple's Password Server
Apple's OpenLDAP-based directory server
netinfo
