Using VOP_READDIR

I'm having trouble using VOP_READDIR to get the contents of a directory. I keep getting one entry which is for ".". Does one call to VOP_READDIR put all directory entries into the buffer or does it need to be called multiple times? I'm treating the buffer as an array of dirent structs and jumping to the next one by moving d_reclen bytes over. Is this correct?

Could someone show an example?
