need for ld's -bind_at_load flag

We are using a framework which claims that, unless the app is linked
using the -bind_at_load flag, C++ RTTI does not work. Looking around a
bit, I've found other claims that C++ static constructors don't work
without -bind_at_load. Is this true as of the Dec 2002 Tools? What is the
connection between dyld binding undefined symbols and module
initialization code being executed, anyway? Depending on the
application, it seems that using bind_at_load may hugely impact startup
time.

Thanks,
Conrad Carlen
