Is IORegistryEntrySetCFProperty "synchronous"?

Subject: Is IORegistryEntrySetCFProperty "synchronous"?

I've been digging through the documentation trying to get a clear answer on this and it doesn't seem to be covered. My question is this: when I call IORegistryEntrySetCFProperty is it returning immediately or can I be certain that my kext has received and processed the setProperty call before the call returns?
