Is there a canonical recipe for finding the FQDN on darwin?

I don't think the OP is looking for the domain name for the darwin or opendarwin site. I think he wants to get "the" fully qualified domain name for a darwin-based host on which his software will be running.

The real issue is what his ultimate aim is, since "the" FQDN is ill-defined.
