Patch for using tcpdump on FireWire interface

Hello,

I very often use a Firewire link for TCP/IP networking between two
macs. I also often use tcpdump to monitor the network traffic in order
to find where packets are dropped and then configuration errors.

However, tcpdump is not able to monitor traffic from a firewire link.
I've written a very simple patch for libpcap and tcpdump that add the
compatibility for this type of link. The patch has been made with the
tcpump and lipcap code available from the Darwin 7.3 distribution.

http://maxao.free.fr/telechargement/tcpdump.ieee1394.tgz

This patch has been tested with simple options of tcpdump and reveal
only one bug at this time : Firewire ARP packets cannot be decoded. All
other functionality work fine with this patch.

I've tried to contact the tcpdump.org team, but their mailing lists do
not seem active and I did not get answer two weeks after. So I decided
to send it here, and hope that somebody working for Apple will transmit
this patch to the rigth team working on integration of external unix
software to Darwin and MacOS X.

It may not be the good place, but if somebody can do something, all
MacOS X and Darwin users will be happy to have a libpcap working with
IP over FireWire (there are very many softwares using this library to
capture paquets).

Bye
