Thanks, Ronnie - that helps a bunch, but...

Is there a limit to the amount of time you can spend in your notification callback on shutdown?

My callback is entered, and I start to clean my drive's cache, but before I can finish (after about 25 seconds), the system powers off. Is there a way I can prevent the system from powering off until after I've finished up?

During cleanup you need to call remove() on the notifier and not release() as it say in the Doc though.

Folks,

Is there a method which is called for an IOService descendant which
indicates that the system is shutting down (or restarting)? I have some
background threads in my driver, which need to be shut down cleanly
before the system can shut down. I've put a PE_enter_debugger call in
stop, to see if that was ever being called, but I never hit it. Perhaps
my driver isn't being closed properly for some other reason?
