Don't install the kext from within the build folder and you can avoid
both of your problems. All you need to do is copy the kext to the /tmp
directory first and then install it from there. Doing so will
automatically update the permissions for the package and will also
leave your build copies alone.

Try this:

% sudo cp -R my.kext /tmp
