Actually, if their kext is well behaved, in theory it *should* be ok to do this. However, frequently loading and un-loading kexts is never really recommended, this is a sensitive part of the OS you're dealing with here

Thanks Eugenio, but I'd like to slightly disagree with you.

Most media applications are really Media System such as those from Avid, Media100, and Digidesign. These are their systems and our box is just that, a box or component. When they ship their systems, they may put a PCI device in an expansion chassis and another device in a PCI slot. Their ReadMe clearly states the order of the devices in slots is not to be altered due to timing. This is just one example of why we shouldn't be removing their kext, reordering their devices, etc.

When you take a component, in this case a kext, from their system while it is running you may be destroying their state. It won't hurt the Macintosh, but could effect their system, we just don't know.

In any case a solution is to include power management in your kext.

Eugenio, I'm updating the PM DDK for Mac OS X and I'll stop by to see what you may have in your bag-o-tricks for inclusion.

Thanks for the feedback, but I do have to support our developers. Wayne
