Problem regarding User client

Hi,
I am writting device driver module through which I
want to capture a network packet.For writting that
module,I am following steps given below

1)I am trying to write kernel module to create a
user client,I inherited my class(MyDriverClass) from
IOUserClient.

2)My class contain the method is as follows
bool classname::start(IOService)
Inside this menthod ,I am dynamically casting the
IOService object to IONetworkInterface

3)After that,I am trying to create the object of
IONetworkData using
IONetworkData::getNetworkData(const char * key)
But I was unable to identify the parameter "key" in
this function.

So can anybody guide me what is the meaning of
parameter "key"?
