Re: GDB setup switchtoact

I see a mismatch in the xnu version.
My system says xnu verison to be 517.4.11

Aha! That is the usual reason the kgm macros don't work.

Could this be the problem?

Almost certainly.

Do I need to build the kernel?

Is this the target machine?

I suspect that the machine is fairly new and the 10.3.3 on it is a build specific to that system. The build number for the generic 10.3.3 is 7F44.

Apple doesn't release the source for CPU-specific builds (the first G5 release was an exception). If this is your target machine, you'll need to upgrade to 10.3.4 or later in order to do a showallstacks on it. If you're tracking down something that might be an Apple bug, you can submit the bug report and we can do the showallstacks internally.

Thanks,
Lalit.

Hope this helps, --gc

Hi,

1) When I issue the switchtoact command in GDB I get
following error message
 "switchtoact not implemented for this architecture:"

2) Looking at the source of kgmacros, it looks like there is a
check for machine_slot[0].cpu_type == 18
In gdb when I print machine_slot[0] I get following
p machine_slot[0]

$2 = {

is_cpu = 0,
cpu_type = 0,
cpu_subtype = 0,
running = 0,
cpu_ticks = {0, 0, 0, 0},
clock_freq = 0
}

Why are the values not initalized? What am I missing?

3) Where can I find .gdbinit file?

Thanks a lot, Lalit.

What version of Mac OS X are you running on each system? (This applies to your previous "Cannot access memory at address 0x0" question too.)

Thanks,
