Apple claims that (most of? all of?) the system is still built with 3.3.
I maintain a driver which builds and runs fine with 4.0, but I also
maintain another driver which will cause kextload to segfault when the
project is built with 4.0.   So, you may want to avoid 4.0 for kexts
for a while..
