Hello Eric ,
Our requirement is to filter all the drawings that are being done
on the screen . Whatever is being drawn on the screen we want to
capture that , manipulate it and then allow it to be drawn on the
screen.
Can you be more specific?
Why type of manipulation?
You only concerned about "manipulating" the final frame buffer used
for display?
Yes , we are also looking at the kext option and have ruled out
quartz , quicktime and other application layer libraries .
But the problem is we are not able to figure out how the driver is
getting the calls , what are the interfaces, for drawing. If you
have any info please share it with us . And if you can just
highlight the point you mentioned about GPU flags , may be it can
help us because right now we are even unsure whether all the
drawing is being done by graphics card or its the quartz that is
doing the final rendering.
I really don't seeing you being able to do what it sounds like you
are attempting to do on Mac OS X, at least not in any reliable
fashion. At this time Mac OS X really doesn't have any supported (let
alone unsupported) what to do what I think you are trying to do.
As before I suggest talking with Apple directly about the product you
are trying to implement. Also if at all possible go to WWDC 2005 and
try to hook up with Apple engineers working in this space and in person.
