No finger pointing here. I just want to understand what is going on. Your first question : use 10.5 interface in 10.6 environment. Well my driver is using the interface read(...., IOMemoryDescriptor, IOStorageCompletion) because that is what I learned from the old sample codes and Singh's book. I was not aware of new interface in 10.5. When I recompile the driver in the 10.6 environment, it will not compile with that interface. I suspect that the new interface is introduced in 10.5 but I must be using dinasour interface!! I think you guys are faster than DTS! I think I am not so confused any more. The good news is that at least I already have a new driver for 10.6 that supports 32/64 bit, etc. I am not very sure what to do with customers who have already installed the older driver. Thanks. The IOStorageFamily team does a very meticulous job when it comes to situations like this; whilst I don't want to just automatically point the finger I'd be very surprised if you weren't able to do at least one of the following:
- use the 10.5 method in the 10.6 environment
- use the method that you're seeing as required in 10.6 in the 10.5 environment (and Dan's response overlapping mine indicates this is the case)
- use a kext built for 10.5 on a 10.6 system with no recompilation (obviously this only covers your 32-bit needs)
On the subject of getting a quick answer - DTS is where you should always go if you have a pressing business need for a speedy response.
