As anyone seen "IOATAController device blocking bus" in the system.log? I did a google on the message but can not find any references to this anyware. I started getting this error message on two different laptops after upgrading it 10.3.2. When I get these messages the hard drive is making a nasty clicking sound and all disk IO is blocked. Doing a clean install makes the problem go way for a while but it does come back after a few weeks.
I don't know how my experience relates to yours, but:
I have seen this several times, on a 500Mhz Firewire/USB G3 laptop, while trying to mount a CD. In each case, I fixed it expeditiously :-} by waiting until the dust settled, opening the CD tray, and closing it again. The nasty clicking sound, in my case, seemed to be CD-related.
