Re: More sendmail trouble, now with mySQL flavour!!

sudo chmod -R /usr/local/mysql/*

seems to fix mysql, but now sendmail is busted again, at least it's a different error.

[coalmarch:~] tingham% /etc/mail/sendmail.cf: line 101: fileclass: cannot open '/etc/mail/local-host-names': World writable directory

[coalmarch:~] tingham% ls -ald /etc/mail/sendmail.cf
-r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 58272 Sep 2 02:46 /etc/mail/sendmail.cf
[coalmarch:~] tingham% ls -ald /etc/mail/local-host-names
-r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 35 Sep 1 17:10 /etc/mail/local-host-names

[coalmarch:~] tingham% ls -ald /etc/mail
drwxr-xr-x 11 root wheel 374 Aug 20 18:15 /etc/mail
[coalmarch:~] tingham% ls -ald /etc
lrwxr-xrwt 1 root admin 11 Sep 3 15:30 /etc -> private/etc

The interesting thing, is that I did not do a g+w or anything on /etc, it just appeared after a restart.
I cannot seem to change the permissions on that directory at all now. Everything fails, including chmod -t

I'm getting a little scared.

Howdy folks.

So it seems that in my rush to make sendmail work, I have broken mySQL. Here is the output of mydomain.com.err from /usr/local/mysql/data

020903 15:51:02 mysqld started
Cannot initialize InnoDB as 'innodb_data_file_path' is not set.
If you do not want to use transactional InnoDB tables, add a line
skip-innodb
to the [mysqld] section of init parameters in your my.cnf
or my.ini. If you want to use InnoDB tables, add for example,
innodb_data_file_path = ibdata1:30M:autoextend
But to get good performance you should adjust for your hardware
the InnoDB startup options listed in section 2 at
http://www.innodb.com/ibman.html
020903 15:51:02 /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: Can't create/write to file '/usr/local/mysql/data/coalmarch.com.pid' (Errcode: 13)
020903 15:51:02 /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: Can't find file: './mysql/host.frm' (errno: 13)
020903 15:51:02 /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: Error on delete of '/usr/local/mysql/data/coalmarch.com.pid' (Errcode: 13)
020903 15:51:02 mysqld ended

Please dear god, someone tell me this is a simple permissions error, please...
