NFS mount file issues (10.3.3)

We are NFS mounting directories from an SGI running IRIX 6.5. The mounts
appear fine, and can be traversed normally from the Finder or on the
command line. However, do NOT open correctly when double-clicked in the
Finder. The application for that file-type/extension will start, but the
file will not be opened. In fact, some applications will not permit you to
open the file on the NFS volume, it appears gray-ed out (Quicktime Player
behaves this way). Copying the file from the NFS mount to a local disk
fixes these problems, but is obviously not a very good solution. Also,
the Finder will not preview (in column mode) files on the NFS mount as it
normally would.

I do not remember this being an issue prior to 10.3. I have tried turning off
NFS locking, but it had no effect. Any suggestions?
