x color setting

i've just installed the newest cd image available at opendarwin.org (which
i believe is darwin 6.0.2 with the needed fixes)... and i have a question.

i've gone into the /private/Drivers/i386/System.config/Default.table file
and changed the screen resolution to "1280x1024x555" and after a reboot i
started in X fine. so i'm pumped. then i set up the darwin machine to
allow connections from other X clients (using "xhost +"). i go to my
other machine, change the DISPLAY environment variable and start an emacs
session. new gui window pops up on darwin box. so i'm pumped.

i do the same thing with mozilla, and i get this:

Gdk-WARNING **: Visual type=static color depth=8, image bpp=8, lsb first
is no supported by GdkRGB. Please submit a bug report
with the above values to bugzilla.gnome.org

well, i've done the latter, but i'm confused... i guess i just don't know
X well enough. why does mozilla think my X setting are for color depth of
8 and so forth and so on? i guess X doesn't take the video settings from
the kernel video settings? but wait! X has changed since i've changed
the kernel video settings (different resolution seen in X as well as
console)... which means it must read the kernel video settings...

help...

thanks
