OpenDarwin x86 FAQ

Hi All,

I would like to write some X86 FAQ : to give answer for some basics subjects that x86 users/developers will want to find.

Some of us (from x86) come from Linux, FreeBSD on x86 and try to configure their first install of OD on x86 with all the knowledge they have from Linux and FreeBSD. But, some steps in OD must be done in an another way. So, I would like to give them a first general document where they will find the basics.

Some os us (interest in x86 OD) will want to make some developments :
- user space development
- kernel space development.
I've personally chance to own a PowerBook so an apple platform. But some on this list don't own anything allowing them to build some part of the kernel for example : they just own an Intel/AMD platform. I would like for those they could work on darwin without the need of PPC. I know that this last sentence will be subject to "political discussion", but we are here to heard all positions and to report those positions in a document. In this way, all will be clear for beginners or any others.

For those wanted user space informations, we will certainly just inform them where they can find informations in other mailing list for example or already existing documentations. But for those who want to work on the kernel, if most of informations could be retrieve on basic documentation provide by Apple, some are specific to x86 :

- x86 hosted devices drivers development for example. AFAIK, x86 OD can't build all "x86 ready drivers" mostly about the Project Builder version/tools difference on those two platforms.
- etc...

So I would like that some OD guru's could give us advices and some time to validate/complete this FAQ. If some of this mailing list, reading this message want to participate on this document, they can mail me directly (since I understand that answering in the mailing list could expose them to some spam ;-). Their participation could be for writing this FAQ, to validate some subject, to suggest some subject, to give some sample code, some configuration sample, etc...

Thanks in advance for your time.

Best regards.
