Yup - apparently Workstation is the test bed for all development
advances, which (once stable) get pushed into the server versions.
So under GSX it's a clear nogo. Workstation gets through the
majority of the initialization stages, but is currently not
recognizing an emulated SCSI drive (no available devices).
So - I'm trying an IDE drive with the Independent mode option
activated. My first tests failed when it wouldn't do the auto fdisk
command so I'll try that one manually this go around and see if I get
any further.
No love on that front. For whatever reason, it's incapable of
letting me partition the virtual disk. The auto partition option
dies with a malloc error, and when I try manually in fdisk, it
pretends to have partitioned the volume, but returns an "error:
nknown filesystem type" error when I go to the installation phase.
Oh well - guess I'll have to dig up some compatible hardware.

I am betting what you need is virtual workstation, I know there are
differences between Server and Workstation, and that they make it
enough of a pain in order for it to NOT work.
