Uh ... there is no "virtual" CMOS battery in a "virtual" machine.  :-)
 
I'm actually running in Virtual PC 2004 ... I mentioned that further down in the e-mail.  It seems this is a known, and fixed, issue with FreeBSD when running in virtual machines ...

Have you tried replacing the CMOS battery? When the RTC is running vvvveeeerrrryyyy sssslllloooowwwwllllyyy, that's usually the problem.

When I boot and run my real-time clock is running *extremely* slow ... sleep 1 returns in ~45 seconds.  :-(
