Specifying root devices and disabling ACPI did not help so far....
Probably this is the following well known problem ... the 8.01
distribution was unfortunately compiled with SSE2 instructions enabled,
which means you can not run it (nor future distributions) on hardware with
e.g. an AMD Athlon or Athlon-XP processor.
