Hi Shantonu,
XFree86 looks better but still no luck. After exec startx I can see

If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your hardware is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ)

The "xorg" darwinport is broken, and has not been patched to
compile with either gcc 3.3 or gcc 4.0. The "XFree86" darwinport
should work fine though. Try it out.
The symptom you describe of empty files is exactly the bug I fixed
in the XFree86 port.

Sorry, of course I meant Xorg, just a typo. Actually I believe
it is a port problem, because all man pages are just empty files
and it looks like X server is not installed at all. May be I
need to compile and install Xorg source distribution.
Thanks,
Mikhail.

Well, first you have to know that I'm new to darwin .....
But from what I learn on my linux box the command is "Xorg --
configure" (capital X)
I guess you already try with capital X but that was just to be
more accurate.
I'm afraid I have no clues to help you Mikhail .... My Darwin
experience is very (too) poor ....
Sorry,

Hi Yann,
It is good question. There is no such file in whole system.
What is correct place and how to create this file? On my
Freebsd 5.4 box I could type xorg --configure, copy result
to /etc/X11 and I'm done. What about Darwin? There is no xorg
file in a system. May I borrow xorg.conf some where for my
Compaq D510?
Thanks,
Mikhail.

Hi Mikhail,
Could you give us more details about your xorg.conf file ????

There is no .xinitrc in my home directory and /etc/X11/

OK. I've installed windowmaker from a port and created
simple .xinitrc like this:
exec wmaker
Nothing changed. In my best knowledge even without .xinitrc
xinit has to start X server "X" with blank screen and
mouse pointer on it. Instead if it xinit complains that
there is no "X" server in my path. But there is no X in
whole file system!
Thanks,
Mikhail

Subject: Xorg port setup problem
Hi,
I just have installed Darwin 8.0.1 and Xorg port. Then wen
I tried to startx nothing happened:
~ root# startx
~ root#
If I try xinit then:
~ root# xinit
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): no server "X"
in PATH
Use the -- option, or make sure that /usr/X11R6/bin is in
your path and that
"X" is a program or a link to the right type of server for
your display.
Possible server names include:
Xorg X.Org displays
XDarwin Darwin/Mac OS X IOKit displays
XDarwinQuartz Mac OS X Quartz displays
XDarwinStartup Auto-select between XDarwin and
XDarwinQuartz
