Hi Everone,
Can the text line in what ever boot up config file be
erased involving the nVida (graphics) driver that shows up as an
error several times in text boot up with X86 Apple Darwin Version
8.0.0 if the box (pc) doesn't have an nVida graphics card installed ??
I believe the particular box has an Asus M300 PCIe Graphics Card in
a Gigabyte Sigma Series Mobo System with NVida nForce4 mobo chipset.
But does not have an nVida Graphics Card installed.
Is it there fore safe to remove the line from the boot up config
file ???
If so, it aparently may be in some com.Apple or Apple.com config
file,,, somewhere, can anyone shead any light on the matter.
thanks in advance,
regards,
kelly.
Kelly,
you really need to start experimenting and sharing your success, or
failure, with this list instead of asking so many questions. The
simple fact is that darwin-ppc and darwin-x86 are NOT supported in
any standalone configuration by anybody other than folks who do this
as a hobby. Your posts are very long on words but quite short on
content; I know I barely have the patience to read to the end of most
of them.
If you need to build on an x86 platform that will provide some level
of guaranteed support, choose linux or one of the BSDs where you can
BUY THAT SUPPORT. Darwin is NOT a good choice for what it sounds like
you need.
As for your question above, why don't you remove the nVidia kexts
from /System/Library/Extensions (GeForce* and maybe NVDAN*), touch /
System/Library/Extensions, reboot and then tell us if it worked? That
way you can actually ADD SOME KNOWLEDGE to the community rather than
pick our brains about trivialities.
Plus you asked a question about GUIs/Window Managers in another
message. Darwinports and Fink are the only games in town that will
currently make sure the X distribution and some associated window
manager will compile cleanly and install under darwin. If you want
something that will hide all the complexities of UNIX, buy a PowerMac
now and forget all this x86 stuff for another year. Or, take my other
advice and leave darwin for linux or Free/Net/OpenBSD.
