I have had a mix of results mounting CDs in Darwin ... What is strange is
that I often get inconsistent results. Try:
Mount -t cd9660 /dev/disk1 /{your mount directory}
... Or ...
Mount -t cd9660 /dev/disk1s0 /{your mount directory}
I found that sometimes the 's0' seems to screw things up ...

Subject: Urgent Help needed Please: Mounting a cdrom device post successful
install of AD X86 Ver 8.0
Importance: High
Hi everyone,
Could someone look at our config and offer an urgent solution....
PLEASE !
Our FIRST IDE ATA COMPLIANT DRIVE (or Primary Master) IS A 40Gig WD. From
which we Multi Boot a text based Dos, also other *nix (Linux) OS's, Win2k
Pro etc.
Our SECOND IDE DEVICE (or Primary Slave)IS AN LG CDROM / DVD Super Multi
Combo Device.
Our THIRD IDE ATA COMPLIANT DRIVE (or Secondary Master) IS an 80Gig WD.
>From which we Boot Apple Darwin Version 8.0.0 useing our Gigabyte CMOS
>to shift it ^^^ UP to first place in our Drive Array (NON RAID). It
>then always boots to the AD v8.0 Boot Prompt with out any problems.
The other four HDD's are all SATA Drives, which are on seperate controllers,
and are not relivant to these matters at all.
Our problem is in getting our cdrom / dvd combo to mount,,,, even in read
only mode !!!!
Our CDROM is likely to be called or known as /dev/hdb in linux In Darwin
possibly rdisk1s0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
REMEMBER : Our LG CDROM / DVD Super Multi Device Drive is the 2nd (Second)
Physical ATA / ATAPI Device at all times.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unlike Open Darwin which seems to have a directory and or folder called
/Volumes "NO" such Directory is found with an ls at the root prompt, where
Apple Darwin Version 8.0.0 is concerned !!!
BUT a .vol directory is,,,,,, it only seems to contain a rather long number
(probably).....maybe the Apple Darwin Host Drive itself - the drive we
installed Apple Darwin onto at original install time .... perhaps ?
So I guess we have the following questions,
1.) Is there a particular already created directory post install where our
cdrom can be at least read from and copied from.
2.) Where do we navigate to from the root prompt.
IF NOT..........
3.) How do we mount /automount our CDROM /DVD DEVICE at boot or post boot.
4.) And to save another similar post how do we "UNMOUNT" the CDROM /DVD post
booting.
We have tried creating a folder and sub folder directly from root " / "
called /Volumes/cdrom
then used mount_cd9660 /Volumes/cdrom
mount mount_cd9660 /Volumes/cdrom
All to no avail, common errors state that basically the file ando or folder
do not exist.
What's the closely guarded secret about getting cdroms /dvd's to mount in
Apple Darwin ???
In most flavours of Linux it is as simple as falling off a long, "IF" you
have to manually crank up a cdrom / dvd into life, which has been a rare
thing with them over the last few years. Some lines of text in fstab an the
creation of a folder and or sub folder under /mnt have you accessing your
drive very quickly.
Your help from those using Open Darwin x86 version 8.0 would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help !
By the way the CDROM / DVD works fine and is able to be fully used with all
other OS's on this x86 PC !!!!!
cheers,
kelly.
