Hi,
Bit of a curly one, say we want to install an oldie but a goldie, for instance perphas we have an old carry over from the Linux *nix world that has older library requirements. "Normally" where Linux variants are concerned you can run into all sorts of hell. Trying to install "old" programs, perhaps long ago support , updates and the software project stopped and was dropped
BSD ... well at least FreeBSD (which Apple Darwin was sort of concocted from) treats old software installs that have old library(s) requirements in a totally different way. FreeBSD, puts the old library(s) files in a not to obo - far away place. BUT tells the oldie but goldie software (singarly) where to find it.
Does Apple Darwin stick to this BSD compliance or is it Linux like and just install's old over new ?
Also do "all" Darwin Variant flavours do the same aka. GNU Darwin and OpenDarwin
Thanks in advance for your help and shared knowledge.
regards,
kelly and group.
