I get that error when trying to install darwin 8.01 on a non SSE2
processor - are you sure you have an SSE2 chip (http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE2) - have you tried 7.0.1?

I'm trying to install Darwin using an x86 ASUS motherboard with a
AMD processor, which also happens to have a 40GB IDE hard drive. I
read through the Release Notes, and it mentioned that IDE drives
may not work with Darwin, which I suspect is my problem. When
booting from the CD, it hangs when it reaches "The following
devices are available for installation:". I'm searching for other
occurrences for a workaround, but haven't found anything yet.
If I install a SCSI controller and hard drive, does this likely
solve the problem I am seeing?
Thanks,
John
