Darwin/x86 Console Problems

Just joined this list, sorry if this has already been covered...
I'm having problems with Darwin on x86.. The prompt seems to be a bit
messed up. For example, the cursor appears to the left of the prompt,
instead of to the right.. backspacing throws you up to the line above..
everything is just messed up. Just wondering if anyone else has had
this problem, and/or if anyone has come up with a fix.
