Re: Packaging binary open-source apps

You might want to look at my MySQL package for OS X.
It's packaged in the OS X .pkg format, I don't know if that works with
Darwin or not...

I use /usr/local since it is not a binary installed by the vendor, and OS
X/Darwin doesn't come with a /opt for non vendor packaged installs.

One thing you might want to do- if you can get MySQL building shared libs-
is look at putting the shared libs into a framework.

I haven't looked at all at creating frameworks, but from what I have read
about them, they are really a wicked way to handle shared libraries.

My MySQL package for OS X is at
http://24.5.29.77/OSX-Darwin/PPC/OTHER/MySQL/

It also has a preflight and postflight script you may be interested in
utilizing in your own packaging (talks to NetInfo to set up user/group)
