Packaging binary open-source apps

Hi,

I have recently managed to successfully build mySQL
and since the currently is no binary distribution I
was thinking of making the build available. The
question that came to me is what the best a directory
base would be for the app, either /usr/local/mysql
or /Library/StartUpItems/mysql. The solution should
be suitable for both Darwin and MacOS X.

If there is a FAQ that covers this issue and other
such related issues, then I would love to know
about it.
