Command to put computer to sleep?

I am have Darwin on a one user machine, ie only one person will use it
at a time, and I want to be able to run a heavy task and once it is
finished tell the computer to go to sleep. Is there a command to do
this, or does anyone have a snippet of code that will do the same
thing?
