Re: Console (text) Games (?)

Considering that it might be useful for someone else attempting to
re-compile *BSD stuff, I thought I'd send this to the list. All I basically
did was dig around on ftp.freebsd.com until I found the source code to the
games (there were many more than just the few I posted, but only these 16
actually compiled without errors). I also grabbed the source code to BSD
make, as Darwin uses GNU make. The first thing I did was to un-tar all of
the make source files, which open up into a main build directory and a
subdirectory, and copied all of the source to a new directory (I called it
Newmake, to set it apart from the other make directories). Then I just
invoked cc from the command line with 'cc -o make *.c' to create BSD make.
(I'm not presently at the OS X computer I used, it's at work, and I'm at
home, but I'm almost positive that that was all it required for compiling).
Anyway, after that, just put copies of BSD make into each of the
subdirectories of the games or other files you're attempting to build under
Darwin, type './make' at the command line to force the computer to use the
copy of make in that directory, rather than search out along your $PATH and
get GNU make, which would give errors. BSD's make will complain if you're
building binary files in the same directory as the source files, but you can
pretty safely ignore this warning.
Now that I have this handful of games compiled, I'm wondering what else
might work with BSD's make. Oh and if anyone does try this and could give me
some tips on getting the rest of the BSD games to compile, I'd appreciate
hearing it.
