Re: [newbie] Darwin on Apple Network Servers?

Thanks for the comments Markus. I can foresee a problem... MacOS 9 (or
indeed any version of Classic MacOS) doesn't install on Apple Network
Servers as they have a different ROM from your average mac (but are based
on the 9500/9600 motherboard apart from that). They were built to run AIX

I know IBM's RS/6000 and it seems, an ANS is some mix of an RS/6000 (software side) and a Macintosh (hardware side).

Josh de Cesare wrote some notes about porting Darwin to RS/6000 and similar machines on the two Darwin lists, the last on July 21th on the users list. You might want to look it up on http://www.darwinfo.org/ .

I shall try the 'whip the disk out, install Darwin, and put it back in'
approach though.

Wish you luck.

Certainly OS X Server v1.2 didn't install, but then
again it wasn't based on Darwin at that point, if I remember correctly
(it was Rhapsody).

Darwin 0.3 is the core of OS X Server 1.02, AFAIK. I could send you a copy (42,4 MB) but that won't help you much.
