Thanks for the comments Markus. I can foresee a problem... MacOS 9 (or
indeed any version of Classic MacOS) doesn't install on Apple Network
Servers as they have a different ROM from your average mac (but are based
on the 9500/9600 motherboard apart from that). They were built to run AIX
(IBM's flavour of UNIX), but Apple stopped licensing AIX in '97/98, so
the system version on the beasts has been frozen in time since then
(although you could still update apache etc. of course)

I shall try the 'whip the disk out, install Darwin, and put it back in'
approach though. Certainly OS X Server v1.2 didn't install, but then
again it wasn't based on Darwin at that point, if I remember correctly
(it was Rhapsody).

Thanks for your help, I shall post any results I get.
