Opening a terminal to a USB modem

Hi,

I have been chating to someone who has difficulty get his Global Village 56K
USB modem
working with MacOS X. Global Village pulled a fast one and told him that his
modem is
no longer supported, mainly because the actual company who developed the
modem has
gone out of business. Anyhow onto the issue at hand. Since a USB modem is
simply
a serial based modem using USB, I reckon that the modem probably supports
the Hayes
protocol and that if I could somehow connect to it using a terminal I would
be able to
check to see if I can get a connection, even if MacOS X can't. Does anyone
know what
I need to do under Darwin to open serial terminal on a USB device?

Andre
