Is a Java 2 JDK available for Darwin ? I'm putting off getting OS X for a
few months, but want a Unix system to learn some of the bleeding edge web
development technologies & techniques, so I thought I might install Darwin
on my G3 233MHz beige desktop (still running OS 8.1).

I'd like to have a system that has a Java 2 SDK, Tomcat, PostgreSQL, Apache,
and Perl, and would appreciate any thoughts anyone might have.

Apple hasn't made their java work on darwin, afaik. *shrug*

there is no java support in darwin at this time, although I guess someone with some time on their hands should be able to port the linux or freebsd version...

hmm... I'm wondering if proclus (who has done a lot of porting work for Darwin, see http://www.gnu-darwin.org) has it working with the ports, i'll have to ask him and get back to you on that one :)
