You need to change the default directory for the swap files in /etc/rc,
before anything else gets started. How else are you telling OS X to use
the other partition?


Oh, I have certainly _done_ that. The problem is just as described above: The swap partition is ignored ( = it becomes "swap 1") and a new swap file is added by the system called "swap" (= which was the name of my partition).
