Re: Running pppd in the usual Unix way

Hello,

Le vendredi 22 juin 2001, ` 08:37, Finlay Dobbie a icrit :

PPP support moved to kernel space for some odd reason. This has caused no end of problems for G4 Dual Processor machines, who got kernel panics when they tried to connect (which has since been fixed, AFAIK).

pppd isn't there, and I haven't found any documentation anywhere ever of how to get Darwin talking over PPP, either in 1.2 or 1.3.

I get to the samme conclusion...
So I've looked a bit around and found pppd, pppd modified por pppoe and pppoe (rp's one of course).
What I've understood is :
- PPP and PPPoE are kernel extensions in Mac OS X what they weren't in the Public Beta (PPPoE didn't exist in it anyway) so that the only way one could dialup to the net is by booting the GUI... (no support of all that in the "console OS"
- If one install a pppd and a pppoed in it's 'BSD' he could be able to bypass GUI's ones

But I haven't tested it yet...

files found (sorry I've lost the bookmarks) :
- PPP modified for PPPoE : ppp-2.4.0-pppoe4.tgz
- PPPoE from the Roaming Penguin : rp-pppoe-3.0.tar.gz

PLease talk back after tests !
