Hi,

I've read the discussion with great interest and would like to add a few
things:

-- It has helped the speed of my system to create an extra swap
partition - no doubt
-- I would use UFS in favor of HFS+ since it tends not to defragment
very much.
-- There's an interesting article about this whole issue and how to set
up a dedicated swap partition (in French):

(which has also helped me a lot)
