zsh 4.01 and other updated tools ?

Hi,

does the zsh 4.01 build under Darwin? I have not really made a serious
attempt but I'd love a more recent zsh than the one that is distributed
with the current version of Darwin.
BTW: Who is actually updating the tools of Darwin? Since quite a few of
the applications seem to be rather outdated, wouldn't it make sense to
add new ones? Or, maybe the other way around, integrating the "Darwin
Collection" - http://www.ptf.com/ptf/tdc/ - into Darwin proper?
