Here comes Cairo (again)!

We gotta get things fired up around here you know! Time for Darwin to shake rattle and roll!

Did anyone see the story on News.com last weekend about Microsoft trying to bring Cairo back from the dead, which it started in 1992? They want an Object Filing System (OFS) to rule the planet in the next iteration of Windows.

Ladies and gents, for a trip down memory lane, Cairo was a direct response to the threat that NeXT at one time imposed. Microsoft didn't know how much of a thorn NeXT would (or would not) be to them in the 1990s, so they touted Cairo but it fizzled as Billy Boy Wonder had other things to worry about such as the 'net, Java battles with Sun, MSN v.s. AOL, and eventually the DOJ.
