What does ps report TTY as "std"?

Why does ps report the terminal as "std"?

$ tty
/dev/ttyp1
$ ps
  PID  TT  STAT      TIME COMMAND
29578 std  Ss     0:00.08 -bash

If this is a FAQ or documented, please point me to it.

Also, I noticed that the manpage doesn't explain the "-" in front of the
command.
