I'm not sure; perhaps it has to do with 'devfs' (I have not looked at the source), which could make the stdin/out assignments for the shell from which 'ps' is run look that way instead of real tty names.


Also, I noticed that the manpage doesn't explain the "-" in front of the
command.

That's because the '-' in front of the command is part of the command name, not something that 'ps' does. Look in the various shell man pages.
