Hello everyone!

I have just installed Darwin 7.0.1 on a 333Mhz blueberry iMac G3.

I've logged on as root and tried to set a password for root using
   # passwd
or
   #passwd root
and either seems to work until I restart, and then my password is no
longer recognized.

Likewise, I've tried to set up a normal user using niutil using
   # niutil -create / /users/bdpierce
   # niutil -createprop / /users/bdpierce shell /bin/tcsh
   # niutil -createprop / /users/bdpierce realname "Bryan Pierce"
   # niutil -createprop / /users/bdpierce uid 1000
   # niutil -createprop / /users/bdpierce gid 1000
   # niutil -createprop / /users/bdpierce home /Users/bdpierce
   # niutil -createprop / /users/bdpierce _shadow_password
   # passwd bdpierce
and the results are the same. I can login fine until I restart and then
my passwords are no longer recognized.

(I don't know if it is correct, or if it matters, but I am restarting
with...)
   # shutdown -r + 0

If anyone has any idea on what I might be doing wrong, it would be
greatly appreciated.
Also, if anyone has any suggestions on where to find some basic
instructions on getting started setting up
and configuring my system, it would be very helpful.
(the above came from searching the net, but finding helpful
information seems hard)
(I thought it might be better to turn to the built in documentation
and have tried "$man man" and "info"
but even figuring out where to start is proving difficult)

Any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated!!

Sincerely,

Bryan Pierce
