For What It's Worth... and at the risk of prompting a yawn or two...
I'd like to amplify the concern about the Safari / Dashboard / Widget
security problem.
As developers of widgets - for fun or profit - you might want to consider
what could happen if the 'sandbox' Apple has provided (to date) is _NOT_
actually secure... that is, if the average user / consumer simply does
not trust the security measures Apple has put in place so far.
I think the Dashboard technology is extremely cool, and would hate to see
it founder for want of adequate safeguards.
I encourage you all - as developers (and having a bit more clout than
average consumers) - to either send some feedback to Apple or file a bug
report through ADC to ensure that Apple addresses the auto-install
problem (in particular) as soon as possible.
The potential exploits - as remote as they might seem at first glance -
appear to be quite real.
