Re: Can I read CFBundleShortVersionString in my widget?

No problem, Tom. I'll get used to mailing lists eventually!

Also, glad to see I'm not alone in weird event behaviour.

Hi Matt,

I don't have an answer for you - in fact I've seen similar things: sometimes, randomly, the drawing done in my onshow() method isn't called; sometimes clicks that are _definitely_ on my flip button instead seem to miss and dismiss the dashboard layer. I haven't updated to 10.4.1 yet and was secretly hoping there might be a fix.

But I was in fact addressing Blake Patterson here.

Thanks for that Tom, but my problem is with events firing.

But I've not had any response regarding those so I've decided to switch track and try XMLHttpRequest.

Guy Brooker posted complete code for reading stuff like this back on May 11 if you want to troll back through the archives. The meaning of the keys themselves is documented in:

I'm going to try using XMLHttpRequest to read the file I need, seeing as there have been no responses to my two problems this week. Even if it doesn't fix my problems it seems it's the topic that gets the most replies on here! ;)
I'm clutching at straws, mind you.

Hi Blake,
I think the path of least resistance would be to just keep an up-to-date string in your JavaScript code that you sent across the wire (you might want to display the version on the back anyway). Otherwise you could use XMLHttpRequest to read the plist, but that's a bit more work.

I am not quite clear on just what the intended differences between:
CFBundleShortVersionString
CFBundleVersion
...are, in the Info.plist for widgets, but I assume they indicate the current version of my widget, to be updated with each new release. Is it possible for me to read these in so that I can hit my website behind the scenes with an XMLHttpRequest and determine if the user has the latest version, when they hit an "Update?" button? How would I get the values from the plist?
Thanks.
