Updated Sample Code and BW Compatibility Instructions

Hi everyone,

As mentioned in a previous thread, a number of Dashboard samples have been updated to incorporate the new built-in AppleClasses in 10.4.3:

http://developer.apple.com/samplecode/AppleApplications/idxDashboard-date.html

Fader, Stretcher, Scroller, and SampleRSS are all functionally unchanged, but are now hundreds of lines shorter.  The new AppleScrollbar in particular is much easier to embed in your widget; have a look at the new Scroller example to see how much has changed.

You will notice that the AppleClasses directory found in /System/Library/WidgetResources is bundled at the root of each sample widget for compatibility with pre-10.4.3 systems.  References to the AppleClasses directory from your HTML files should be kept relative, as demonstrated in the samples.  This, coupled with the new BackwardCompatibleClassLookup Info.plist key set to yes, will ensure that the system-installed AppleClasses will be used on 10.4.3 and later.  Online documentation explaining this is on its way, but we wanted to get the samples out to you as soon as possible.

The techniques demonstrated by these samples are significantly improved with 10.4.3; please review them and see for yourselves.

Have a great weekend!
