I am working on updating one of my widgets, and the most requested feature is to have the widget remember recent searches. Using Safari and html this is simple, using a search type input instead of a text and setting results to equal the desired number of saved searches, however when implementing this in my widget I find that the recent searches are cleared upon refreshing or even just flipping the widget.

Has anyone found a way to implement this properly? I have checked out a number of other widgets using the input type="search" elements and all seem to display the same behavior. Any ideas of how to get this to work would be very appreciated.
