Regional Localization in Dashboard

Hi everyone,

I'm building a widget that need to know the date format the user is using - that is "mm/dd" or "dd/mm".

The best way I've figured out to do this (short of a preference, which I'll have anyway as a backup) is using regional language IDs.
(http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MacOSX/Conceptual/BPInternational/Articles/LanguageDesignations.html#/ /apple_ref/doc/uid/20002144) This way I can target the default format to the language the person uses and hopefully guess the date format right.

I have two questions. For one, does Dashboard actually support formats like "en-US.lproj"? And secondly, does anyone have any experience/ suggestions regarding this issue?

(Side note: Although I would much rather print something like "Dec 30", it has to be able to read these formats, not write them.)

Thanks,
Galen D. W.
