Re: DashCode and user-resizeable widgets

Hi Mark,

There are currently no plans to provide this in Dashcode, but we are always open to suggestions.  Our typical design advice is to choose a fitting default size and use a scrollbar to navigate overflowing content, which most widgets do (and Dashcode does help you with).  You can also look into a minimized/maximized "reveal" design like the Weather widget.

Many of the things currently missing from Dashcode's parts library (such as user resizing and the Weather-style resizing) can be found in our widget examples at http://developer.apple.com/samplecode/AppleApplications/idxDashboard-date.html  Worth noting that Dashcode will happily import these widgets and allow you to work further on them.

Again, we are certainly willing to hear all of your requests.  The best forum for them is our Bug Reporter (https://bugreport.apple.com) where you can clearly explain your needs and have them recorded in our tracking system for consideration.

Thanks for trying out Dashcode!

Hi all.

I've been playing with the recently released DashCode demo with a view to moving some of my widgets to it as a development environment, rather than using the messy "XCode+copying to dashboard via Automator" solution I have been using up to now.

Anyway, one problem I have is that there seems to be no support in the demo of DashCode for widgets that are user-resizeable, that is to say that if the user wants more to be shown he can just drag the bottom right corner as if it is a normal application. Tiger's Dictionary widget is a good example of the sort of effect I want to create from scratch within DashCode.

So, does anyone know if this is possible with the current demo? If not, can anyone say if it is planned to have such functionality in the release Leopard version?

Thanks in advance for any replies.
